Privacy Policy
Effective Date: August 15, 2026
At HomeFree Homecare, your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect your personal information when you use our website (homefreehomecare.com), use the HomeFree mobile app for caregivers and staff, contact us, or engage our homecare services.
By using our services, visiting our website, or using our mobile app, you consent to the practices outlined below.
1. Information We Collect
We may collect the following types of personal information:
Website Visitors:
- Name and contact details submitted through forms
- IP address, browser type, and device information
- Pages visited, time on site, and referring URLs (via cookies or analytics tools)
Care Clients and Families:
- Full name, address, phone number, and email
- Health history and medical conditions (with consent)
- Care preferences and service requirements
- Emergency contact and billing information
Job Applicants & Caregivers:
- Resume and employment history
- Certifications and credentials
- References and background screening information
HomeFree Mobile App (Caregivers & Staff):
When you sign in to and use the HomeFree mobile app, we collect and process:
- Account identity — your name and email address from your organization Google account, via Google Sign-In, used to authenticate you.
- Phone number — used to send a one-time security code (SMS multi-factor authentication) when you sign in.
- Precise location — collected only when you clock in or out of a shift, to confirm you are at the client's care location. Location is used only while you are actively using the app (when-in-use). We do not track your location in the background, and we do not sell or share it.
- Device notification token — to deliver push notifications such as shift reminders. Notifications never contain health information.
- App content and activity — the shifts, timesheets, tasks, messages, and posts (including any photos, videos, or documents you choose to attach) that you view or submit in the app, used to provide the service.
SMS and Mobile Information:
If you choose to opt in to SMS messaging, we collect your mobile phone number and record the date, method, and context of your consent. No individually identifying health information is ever collected, transmitted, or stored through SMS. All SMS communications comply with Alberta's Health Information Act (HIA).
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide, manage, and improve our caregiving services
- Schedule assessments and respond to inquiries
- Support caregiver hiring and onboarding
- Help clients access public funding (e.g., AHS programs)
- Communicate updates, resources, and support
- Ensure safety and compliance with healthcare regulations
For caregivers and staff using the mobile app, we also use your information to verify your presence at a client's location when you clock in, deliver shift and account notifications, display your schedule, timesheets, and tasks, enable secure team messaging, and authenticate you (including SMS multi-factor authentication). The app is used by authorized staff to access client care information as part of delivering care, in accordance with Alberta's Health Information Act (HIA). Client health information is never sold, shared for marketing, or transmitted via SMS or push notification.
SMS-Specific Use:
If you opt in to receive text messages, we use your mobile phone number solely for account notifications, scheduling updates, and customer care communications. Message frequency varies based on communication needs. No health information is transmitted via SMS.
3. Sharing of Information
We do not sell, rent, transfer, or share your personal or mobile information with third parties for marketing purposes under any circumstances.
We may share information only in the following situations:
- With authorized HomeFree care professionals as needed to deliver services
- With Alberta Health Services or related agencies when applying for public funding
- With trusted third-party service providers (e.g., encrypted hosting, secure SMS delivery providers, background check services, and Google for app sign-in via Google Sign-In and push notifications via Firebase Cloud Messaging)
- When required by law or legal process
All third parties are bound by confidentiality obligations and data protection standards.
Strict Data Transfer Limitations:
We do not transfer, sell, share, or rent personal information or mobile data to any external organization outside the limited purposes listed above, even with consent. We maintain strict internal controls and security measures to prevent unauthorized access or disclosure of personal information.
No health information is ever transmitted via SMS under any circumstances.
4. Your Rights and Choices
You have the right to:
- Access or update your personal information
- Withdraw consent (where applicable)
- Request correction of inaccurate records
- Request deletion of non-essential data
To make a request, contact us at hello@homefree.care.
Mobile app accounts for caregivers and staff are provisioned and managed by HomeFree (via your organization Google account); they are not self-registered. To access, correct, or delete personal information associated with the app, contact your administrator or hello@homefree.care and we will action your request.
4.1 SMS Opt-Out Rights
If you have opted in to receive SMS messages, you may opt out at any time by replying STOP or UNSUBSCRIBE to any message. You may request assistance by replying HELP or by contacting us directly. Opting out of SMS messages does not affect your access to caregiving services.
5. Data Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your information from unauthorized access, misuse, or loss, including:
- Secure data storage and access restrictions
- Encryption for sensitive records
- Regular audits and employee training
6. Cookies and Analytics
Our website uses cookies and similar tracking technologies to improve your browsing experience and understand how visitors use the site. You may disable cookies through your browser settings.
7. Third-Party Links
Our website may contain links to other sites. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of those third parties. We recommend reviewing their privacy policies.
8. Mobile App Permissions
The HomeFree app requests only the permissions it needs: Location (While Using the App) — to confirm you are at the client's location when clocking in (no background tracking); and Notifications — to send shift and account alerts. You can change these at any time in your device settings; disabling location will prevent location-verified clock-in.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. We encourage you to review this policy regularly.
10. Contact Us
